Here's some big news I'm only just catching up on:
A federal appeals court in New Orleans upheld a 1949 Texas law on Friday, affirming that the slaughter of horses for their meat is illegal in the state and overturning a lower court decision last year that ruled the law was invalid. Two of the United States' three horse slaughter plants are located in Texas. The ruling may well be a preview of what's to come as the horse slaughter bill in Congress awaits a vote that could eliminate the practice of horse slaughter in this country entirely.
