About Ananimalfriendlylife
The Service We Wish More People Booked
Ananimalfriendlylife works on garage doors across Long Beach, and the part of the job we care most about is the safety systems. We are on Atlantic Ave in the 90806 ZIP.
A garage door is the heaviest moving object in a normal house. It weighs as much as two adults, it moves through a space people and animals walk through, and it operates when nobody is necessarily watching.
Two independent systems stand between the door and whatever is underneath it, and both have been required on residential openers since 1993. In our experience most homeowners have tested neither.
Why They Fail Quietly
A photo eye knocked out of alignment by a bicycle handlebar looks identical to a working one. A contact reversal whose force setting has drifted gives no indication at all. Nothing lights up, nothing beeps, and the door keeps working normally right up until the day something is in the way.
That is the whole argument for testing on a schedule rather than waiting for a symptom. There is no symptom.
The One We See Most
Sensors mounted too high.
They are supposed to sit below six inches from the floor, low enough to catch a small child or an animal lying in the doorway. We regularly find them zip-tied at knee height or higher, almost always to stop them being knocked by bins, bikes or storage.
At that height the beam passes cleanly over a toddler sitting in the door path. It is a well-meant adjustment that removes the protection entirely, and we reset them every time.
